Thorley Lane Car Park
We were appointed by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) to deliver the design and construction of two new car parks at Thorley Lane, supporting increased parking capacity ahead of the busy summer travel season at Manchester Airport.
The scheme was completed within an accelerated five-month programme, ensuring the facilities were operational in time to meet the client’s seasonal demand. The project involved the complete transformation of the sites, including resurfacing works, parking infrastructure, lighting, security systems, drainage, telecommunications and associated civil engineering works.

The Challenge
With a fixed deadline driven by operational requirements and anticipated summer passenger volumes, the project demanded a carefully coordinated approach from the outset.
R&M were required to undertake site surveys, develop a compliant design solution, procure specialist materials and subcontractors, and complete all construction activities within a condensed timeframe. The design also needed to align with MAG’s asset standards and operational requirements while ensuring the car parks could be delivered efficiently and safely.
Close collaboration between design, commercial and delivery teams was essential to maintain programme certainty and meet the client’s expectations.

Acting as both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor, R&M developed a comprehensive design solution that balanced programme requirements, operational functionality and long-term asset performance.
